Forensic Computer Examination

White, Zuckerman, Warsavsky, Luna, Wolf & Hunt, LLP (WZWLW&H) is proud to announce its partnership with Greg Patatian and NetSecure to provide Forensic Computer Examination services as a part of our litigation support offerings. Greg is certified to perform examination of computer systems by the Experienced Computer Forensic Examiner Organization (ECFE).

Computer Forensics differs from data recovery - the recovery of data after an event affecting the physical data, such as a hard drive crash. Forensic Computer Examination goes much deeper. Computer forensics is a complete computer examination with analysis as the ultimate goal.

This service includes not only the recovery of deleted files (documents, graphics, etc.), but also searching the slack and unallocated space on the hard drive: places where a plethora of evidence regularly resides. Forensic examinations allow the processing of hidden files that are not visible or accessible to the user which may contain past usage information. It is reconstructing and analyzing the date codes for each file and determining when each file was created, last modified, last accessed and when deleted.

Computer forensics is being able to run a string-search for e-mail, when no e-mail client is obvious. Specific analysis will reveal Internet usage and recover data even after the computer has been formatted and/or defragmented. We use industry-standard methodology, and supply our clients with a concise written report of our findings.

Forensic Computer Examination includes the tracing of Operating System artifacts: those tidbits of data left behind by the Windows (or other operating systems); for clues of what the computer has been used for. Perhaps most importantly it includes the knowledge of how to find those artifacts, and how to evaluate the information once it is found.
